Muzarabani and Ngarava Power Zim Defeated Ban in 1st T20I

Muzarabani and Ngarava Power Zim Defeated Ban in 1st T20I

BULAWAYO: A masterclass in death bowling by Zimbabwe’s pace spearheads, Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava, propelled the hosts to a 32-run victory over a depleted Bangladesh side in the first T20 at the Queens Sports Club.

Defending a competitive total of 170, the Zimbabwean bowling attack combined precision with raw pace to dismantle the visitors' batting lineup, bundling them out for 138 in 19 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Bennett and Burl Power Hosts to 170

Earlier in the afternoon, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field, looking to exploit any early moisture in the Bulawayo surface. However, Zimbabwe’s top order came out with aggressive intent. Opening batsman Brian Bennett provided the initial spark in powerplay, taking the attack to the Bangladeshi bowlers with a blistering 44 off 30 deliveries. Bennett’s fluid strokeplay set a high-tempo foundation, punctuated by crisp boundaries through the off-side.

Bangladesh found a lifeline through the extra pace of Nahid Rana. The speedster bowled with great fire, turning the tide in the middle overs by picking up crucial wickets to finish with excellent figures of 4 for 26. Despite Rana’s regular breakthroughs, Zimbabwe’s middle order held firm. Ryan Burl anchored the back half of the innings with a calculated, unbeaten 30, neutralizing the spin threat.

A late, explosive cameo from Brad Evans, who hammered 19 runs off just 10 balls, shifted the momentum firmly back to the hosts, pushing Zimbabwe to a robust 170 for 6 in  20 overs.

Muzarabani and Ngarava Stifle Chase

Chasing 171, Bangladesh’s experimental lineup suffered an immediate collapse under high-quality opening spells from the hosts. Muzarabani struck early, generating sharp bounce that left the top order searching for answers. Reduced to a precarious position inside the Powerplay, the visitors never truly recovered their rhythm.

Yasir Ali offered the lone, valiant resistance for Bangladesh. Fighting a solitary battle, the middle-order batsman notched a gritty 54 off 38 balls.

However, his efforts were entirely overshadowed by Zimbabwe’s premier fast-bowling duo. Muzarabani was virtually unplayable, finishing with devastating figures of 4 for 17, while Ngarava matched his intensity from the opposite end to claim 4 for 26.

With this 32-run triumph, Zimbabwe establishes total control of the bilateral contest. Bangladesh will need to urgently address their top-order vulnerability and tactical execution under pressure if they hope to keep the series alive.

The teams will meet again at the same venue for the crucial second T20I on Friday, July 17.
