Zim vs Ban T20 Live Powerplay: Zimbabwe Race to 54/1

BULAWAYO: Zimbabwe made an explosive start to the T20I leg of their bilateral home series, racing to 54 for 1 in the mandatory 6-over powerplay after being put in to bat by Bangladesh at the Queens Sports Club.

Aggressive Openers Set the Tone

Faced with a heavily depleted Bangladesh bowling unit, Zimbabwe's opening pair took immediate advantage of the hard new ball. Brian Bennett led the early onslaught, showing zero hesitation against the moving delivery. Bennett targeted the straight boundaries, dismantling Shoriful Islam's opening over with two crisp boundaries. 

On the other end, Tadiwanashe Marumani played a fine supporting role, turning over the strike efficiently and picking up a boundary over mid-on against Mohammad Saifuddin. The hosts cruised past the 40-run mark within four overs, punishing any width offered by the visitor's backup seamers. 

The batting display put Bangladesh instantly on the defensive, pushing fielders back to the boundary rope the moment the fielding restrictions would allow.

Bangladesh Strikes Back 

Just as Zimbabwe looked poised to completely run away with the opening session, Nahid Rana provided the essential breakthrough in the 4th over of the powerplay. Pulling his length back slightly, Shoriful induced a mistimed pull shot from Marumani (14 off 9 deliveries). 

Despite losing Marumani, Zimbabwe comfortably won the opening chapter of the match, setting an aggressive baseline run rate of 9.00 runs per over.
