MELBOURNE: The Sydney Sixers extended their winning streak in the Big Bash League with a composed six-wicket win over the Melbourne Stars at the MCG, handing the hosts their third loss in a row.

This victory was a result of a well-controlled bowling performance by Ben Dwarshuis, who claimed figures of 4/13 as the Stars were bowled out for 128 in 19.5 overs. His 18th over wicket of Marcus Stoinis and Haris Rauf virtually ended the contest with a double-wicket maiden.

Jack Edwards returned 3 for 27 with a wicket of Glenn Maxwell, and Joel Davies maintained pressure through the middle overs and finished with 2 out of 15.

The highest score of 33 by Blake Macdonald and Marcus Stoinis was recorded in Melbourne innings, but the tight attack on the part of the Sixers prevented the team from building momentum.

The Sixers were never threatened while chasing a target of 129. Josh Philippe scored 35 off 25 balls, and then Lachlan Shaw came in with a spectacular 24 not out off 14 balls with the support of Jordan Silk to drive the visitors home. Stoinis returned figures of 2 of 20, and that was not enough.

The win strengthens the Sixers’ position as the tournament builds, while the Stars will look to bounce back against the Melbourne Renegades on Saturday.
