The Hurricanes had a good home record leading up to the game, but the Scorchers silenced the crowd with a blazing batting performance. Perth scored 229 for 3, and it was a brilliant 102 by Mitchell Marsh and a scorching, unbeaten 94 by Aaron Hardie.

They were together until they hit 164 runs, which was the highest third-wicket partnership in BBL history. Marsh smashed 11 fours and five sixes in 58 balls, and Hardie punished every loose delivery.

In response, the Hurricanes finished on 189 for 9, and the Scorchers won by 40 runs.

Marsh Returns To Form In Style

Mitchell Marsh, Australia's T20I captain, found the middle of the bat from the very first delivery. He sent the opening ball onto the Ninja Stadium hill and never looked back. He also benefited from a couple of missed chances when Matthew Wade failed to hold on to two tough opportunities.

The innings came at a perfect time for Marsh, who had only made 25 in his previous four Big Bash appearances.

He reflected afterward, saying:

"I've actually felt pretty good in the games I missed out in. The key thing for me is that when you miss out a couple of times, stick to your routines. I know what works, certainly in this format, for me to be mentally good to go. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous ... you always want to contribute and get going in a tournament."

Hardie took control in the middle overs, especially during the 12th over, when he cracked four boundaries and a six off Chris Jordan in an over worth 26 runs. Hurricanes quick Riley Meredith endured a rough outing, finishing with 0 for 61 from his four overs, while Jordan went for 0 for 41.

Hurricanes Fight Back But Fall Short

The Hurricanes tried to stay in the contest with periods of aggressive batting. Nikhil Chaudhary scored 31 off 15 balls, and Matthew Wade added 29 off 14, and the small middle-over charge was on.

Chaudhary was caught in the deep off Cooper Connolly. Soon, after surviving a no-ball in the same over, Wade was dismissed.

Ashton Agar was good with the ball and took 3 for 38. Hardie and Joel Paris took two wickets each, and Perth wrapped up the match completely. The defeat ended Hobart’s nine-match home winning streak, and the Scorchers moved to third on the table.
