Riyan Parag Fined for Code of Conduct Breach; BCCI Warns Rajasthan Royals Over Repetitive Lapses

Riyan Parag Fined for Code of Conduct Breach; BCCI Warns Rajasthan Royals Over Repetitive Lapses

NEW CHANDIGARH: Riyan Parag, captain of Rajasthan Royals, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during a match against Punjab Kings. The sanction was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the fixture played earlier this week.

The incident took place during Rajasthan Royals’ successful chase of 222, which they completed with four balls remaining. Parag was found to have violated Article 2.21 of the code, which deals with behaviour that brings the game into disrepute. The BCCI stated that the player admitted the offence and accepted the penalty imposed by match referee Amit Sharma.

Further Action Under Consideration

In its statement, the board indicated that it is reviewing the matter beyond the individual sanction. It said it is “exploring other options to initiate proceedings for stringent action against the erring team, its officials and player/s to ensure that the reputation of IPL remains intact.”

The development adds to a recent disciplinary concern involving the franchise during the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Earlier this month, Rajasthan Royals’ team manager Romi Bhinder was penalised for breaching operational protocols during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati.

Earlier Incident Involving Team Management

Bhinder had been fined INR 1 lakh after using a mobile phone in the team dugout, an action that falls under restrictions outlined by the league’s anti-corruption regulations. He later informed officials that the breach was unintentional and issued an unconditional apology after accepting the charge.

The matter had drawn attention after images circulated online following the match. Similarly, visuals related to Parag’s conduct also surfaced on social media shortly after the game against Punjab Kings.
The BCCI has reiterated the importance of adhering to established guidelines as the league progresses.
