Rajshahi Warriors defeated Rangpur Riders in a thrilling Super Over encounter at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Led by the bowling heroics of Ripon Mondol, Rajshahi Warriors edged past Rangpur Riders in the 8th match of BPL 2026. After defending the target of 160 runs, Rajshahi Warriors won the Super Over by chasing a modest target of 7 runs.
Rangpur Riders would be heavily disappointed with their performance, as they crumbled badly in the last over of the second innings. Despite getting a great start, they failed to chase the target and eventually lost the match in the Super Over.
Batting first, Rajshahi Warriors got off to a great start. Their star overseas player, Sahibzada Farhan, played strongly against Riders in today’s match. Despite losing Tanzid Hasan early in the Powerplay, he kept scoring runs at a good strike rate to keep Warriors ahead in the match. He was well supported by Najmul Hossain Shanto at the other end, who also played a solid knock in today’s contest.
The partnership between Sahibzada Farhan and Najmul Hossain Shanto gave Rajshahi Warriors a solid base in the first innings. Shanto was looking good to score a fifty, however, he lost his wicket due to an unfortunate runout. He went back to the pavilion after scoring 41 runs at a solid strike rate of 136.
His dismissal didn’t distract Sahibzada Farhan from playing a big innings. He scored 65 runs off just 46 balls, giving Rajshahi Warriors a strong batting impetus in the first innings. Unfortunately, the team suffered a quick collapse after his dismissal. The middle order of the Warriors didn’t contribute anything strongly to the scoreboard, allowing Rangpur Riders to make a strong comeback into the match.
As a result, Rajshahi Warriors managed to score just 159 at the end of the first innings. Faheem Ashraf remained the key bowler for Rangpur Riders, as he took 3 wickets while conceding 43 runs in four overs.
Rangpur Riders started the second innings on a high note. Their top order capitalized on the Powerplay to score quick runs, putting early pressure on the Warriors. Despite losing Litton Das, Dawid Malan continued to play his shots to move the scoreboard smoothly.
He was well supported by Towhid Hridoy at the other end, who played positively by scoring runs at a good strike rate. His big partnership with Dawid Malan helped Rangpur Riders inch closer to the target, however, a collapse in the final overs disrupted their chase. Towhid Hridoy got out after scoring 53 runs, hitting 7 boundaries in total.
Dawid Malan’s unbeaten 63 runs also went in vain, as he failed to chase the target in the final over. All of this was done due to an unbelievable spell by Ripon Mondol, who defended 7 runs in the last over to take the game into Super Over. He took 3 wickets in the last over, showcasing his skills to bowl under immense pressure.
Ripon Mondol came back in the Super Over with another fine spell. He bowled superbly, giving no room to the Riders’ batters to hit big shots. It was a display of high quality bowling by Mondol in the Super Over that restricted Rangpur Riders to just 6 runs.
In reply, Rajshahi Warriors cruised to victory in just three balls. The explosive Tanzid Hasan smashed two fours in the Super Over to seal the win for Rajshahi Warriors. With this victory, they have now secured the top position on the BPL 2026 points table, with three wins from four matches.
