Abrar and Young Stars Shine as Quetta Beats Hyderabad in Match 5 of PSL 11

Abrar and Young Stars Shine as Quetta Beats Hyderabad in Match 5 of PSL 11

Quetta Gladiators kickstarted their HBL PSL 11 campaign with a commanding 40-run victory over the Hyderabad Kingsmen. A disciplined batting performance followed by a suffocating spin masterclass ensured Quetta walked away with two crucial points.

After being put into bat, the Gladiators navigated a shaky start to post a formidable 174 for 8. The innings was defined by two standout performances from the younger brigade: Shamyl Hussain and Hasan Nawaz. The duo combined for a vital partnership that stabilized the middle overs.

Shamyl Hussain scored a fabulous 54. His ability to find gaps during the powerplay allowed Quetta to maintain a healthy run rate even as wickets fell at the other end. Complementing him was the aggressive Hasan Nawaz, whose 53-run cameo was laced with four towering sixes.

However, the Kingsmen fought back in the death overs. Riley Meredith finished with figures of 3 for 38. His searing yorkers and well-directed bouncers accounted for the set batsmen, preventing Quetta from crossing the psychological 190-run mark.

The Collapse: Hyderabad’s Chase Stutters

Chasing 175, Hyderabad’s innings never truly took flight. Alzarri Joseph kept a tight lid on the scoring during the Powerplay. The pressure told early when the Kingsmen lost their openers in quick succession, leaving the middle order with a mountain to climb.

Abrar Ahmed proved to be the final nail in the coffin. The "mystery spinner" once again lived up to his reputation, bamboozling the Hyderabad batsmen with his variations. Abrar finished with figures of 3 for 23, ripping through the heart of the Kingsmen’s lineup.

Despite a late, spirited resistance from the lower order, the Kingsmen were restricted to a meager 134 for 8. The lack of a substantial partnership and an inability to rotate strike against spin proved to be their downfall.

The Gladiators now move to the top half of the table, carrying significant momentum into their next fixture, while Hyderabad is still hoping for a change in fortune.
