PSL 11 Likely to Begin on March 26 as Lahore Qalandars Face New Franchise in Opener

The proposed timetable for the upcoming Pakistan Super League season has surfaced, offering an early look at how the landmark 11th edition of the tournament could unfold. The competition is tentatively scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3, promising several weeks of high-intensity franchise cricket across multiple venues.

Defending champions Lahore Qalandars are expected to kick off the tournament against the newly introduced franchise Hyderabad Kingsmen in the opening fixture at Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium.

Opening Match and Tournament Structure

Reports suggest the league will begin with a single round-robin stage in which all participating teams will face each other. During this opening phase, every franchise will play seven matches as they aim to secure a strong position on the points table.

A total of eight teams will feature in the tournament. Alongside the existing franchises, the inclusion of Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen and Pindiz adds fresh intrigue and expands the league’s competitive landscape.

Following the initial round-robin phase, the tournament will move into a second stage designed to intensify competition.

Second Phase Format

In the second phase, the teams will be split into two groups. Each side will then play three additional matches within its group, bringing the total number of games for each team before the knockout stage to ten.

According to early reports, one group will include Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen.

The other group will consist of Islamabad United, Pindiz, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans.

This format is expected to keep the race for the play-offs alive until the final league fixtures, with teams battling for a spot in the knockout stage.

Play-Offs and Final Venue

The tentative play-off schedule indicates that matches will be shared between Rawalpindi and Lahore.

The first Qualifier is likely to be staged in Rawalpindi on April 28. After that, Lahore will host the first Eliminator on April 29. The second Eliminator is scheduled for May 1 in Lahore, while the grand final is also expected to take place at the same venue on May 3.

While these details provide a glimpse into the structure of the tournament, the official PSL 11 schedule is expected to be announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board in the coming days.
