LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has served a show-cause notice to fast bowler Naseem Shah following a social media post that drew attention during the ongoing PSL 11.
The issue emerged after a message was shared from Naseem’s verified account on X during the opening ceremony at Gaddafi Stadium, where Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz attended as chief guest. The post, which was later removed, questioned her reception at the event and quickly circulated online.
Naseem later addressed the situation, stating that the activity on his account was not intentional. He claimed the account had been compromised and restored shortly afterwards.
"This account of Naseem was recently hacked but now recovered successfully," he said in a clarification posted on the platform.
Despite the explanation, the PCB proceeded with formal action, citing a potential breach of central contract obligations and media regulations. The board confirmed that the notice had been issued under its disciplinary framework and requires a response within a specified period.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a show-cause notice to Naseem Shah, the fast bowler of the Rawalpindz PSL team and a national cricketer, for violating the terms of the Central Contract as well as the Media Policy and Regulations," the PCB said in a statement.
"The show-cause notice has been served in accordance with the PCB's disciplinary framework. Naseem Shah is required to provide a response within the stipulated time. Upon receipt and review of his response, the PCB will decide on any further action in line with the regulations.
"The PCB remains committed to upholding professional standards, contractual obligations, and the integrity of the game."
Naseem Shah is currently part of the Rawalpindz squad for PSL 11. It remains unclear whether the ongoing disciplinary proceedings will affect his availability for the tournament.
