PCB Bans Blessing Muzarabani For Two PSL Seasons After Zimbabwe Pacer Ditches Islamabad United for IPL

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a two-edition ban on Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani from the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This is due to a disciplinary review into his withdrawal from a previously agreed contract.

Muzarabani was initially set to represent Islamabad United in PSL 11 but later opted out after accepting an offer from the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was subsequently signed by the franchise as a replacement for Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

The PCB stated that the player’s decision to step away from an agreed arrangement triggered a formal review, which concluded that contractual obligations had been breached. The board said the move was inconsistent with the professional framework and regulations governing PSL participation.

PCB Stance on Contractual Integrity

In its statement, the PCB stressed that franchise agreements are binding once terms are accepted in writing. It added that changes made without valid justification undermine the operational structure of the league.

The board also reiterated its position on professional conduct in franchise cricket, stating that trust and contractual certainty remain central to the PSL’s functioning. According to the PCB, deviation from agreed terms affects franchises and the wider credibility of the system.

The PSL echoed the stance and highlights the importance of consistency and transparency among players and agents in this sort of competitions.

“Professionalism in franchise-based leagues requires participants to act with transparency and consistency. Entering into a conflicting engagement while a prior binding agreement subsists represents a departure from the expected standards of the game,” the statement said.

“Such conduct, if left unaddressed, erodes the reliability of dealings and the confidence that franchises, regulators, and stakeholders place in professional engagements,” it added.

Immediate Enforcement of Ban

The PCB confirmed that the sanction will apply to the next two editions of the PSL with immediate effect. The decision, it said, reflects the seriousness of the breach and is intended to protect the contractual integrity of the league moving forward.

While acknowledging the increasingly complex global cricket calendar, the board maintained that no compromise will be made on established agreements within the tournament structure.
