KARACHI: A gritty maiden half-century from teenage sensation Beloved Biza anchored Zimbabwe Women to a competitive 222 for 9, their highest total of the tour, as they looked to salvage pride in the third and final ODI against Pakistan at the National Stadium.
Having already conceded the series after two heavy defeats, Zimbabwe showed far greater application with the bat after winning the toss. The visitors abandoned the tentative approach that saw them bundled out for low scores earlier in the week, instead opting for a calculated aggression led by the 17-year-old Biza. The innings began with a steady foundation.
Despite losing an opener, Kelly Ndiraya, early to the pace of Tasmia Rubab, Kelis Ndhlovu (51 off 72) played a sensational innings. Along with her, Biza’s knock of 73 off 88 deliveries was a masterclass in strike rotation and selective boundary hitting, punctuated by seven crisp fours that pierced the inner ring.
At 108 for 2 in the 22th over, Zimbabwe looked poised for a total well beyond 250. However, Pakistan’s disciplined bowling unit triggered a middle-order wobble just as the visitors looked to accelerate. Left-arm seamer Tasmia Rubab took 3 for 49. She broke the crucial stand by dismissing Biza, who was caught at mid-on attempting to clear the infield.
Syeda Aroob Shah’s leg-spin then tightened the screws. She accounted for Runyararo Pasipanodya and Kelis Ndhlovu, ensuring the lower order could not capitalize on the platform. A late cameo from skipper Nomvelo Sibanda (35*) pushed the score past the 220-mark, giving the Zimbabwean bowlers a respectable total to defend.
Pakistan’s fielding remained sharp throughout the 50 overs, though they were wary of the 9 extras conceded. For the hosts, the target of 223 represents a more significant challenge than the previous two fixtures, where they chased down or set targets with ease.
With the series already secured 2–0, Pakistan will use this chase to test the depth of their middle order.
