Maaz Sadaqat Blasts 96 as PAK Defeats SL in 2nd T20I to Seal Series
RAWALPINDI: A masterclass in modern T20 batting followed by a clinical bowling performance saw Pakistan secure an unassailable 2-0 series lead over Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Exhibiting ruthless dominance from the conclusion of the powerplay onward, PAK defeats SL in 2nd T20I by a massive margin as Pakistan won by 82 runs to seal the three-match bilateral series with a game to spare.
Choosing to field first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka initially seemed to have a structural handle on the conditions. Pakistan’s openers were held to a relatively quiet powerplay with 46/0 as the visitors looked to exploit early seam movement. However, the complexion of the game shifted drastically once skipper Sahibzada Farhan and young sensation Maaz Sadaqat found their rhythm. The duo combined for a devastating partnership that completely dismantled the Sri Lankan bowling plan.
Farhan played the anchor-aggressor flawlessly, striking a well-calculated 73 off just 44 deliveries to lay a rock-solid foundation. His composure allowed his partner, Maaz Sadaqat, to launch an absolute assault on the opposition spinners and death bowlers. Sadaqat fell agonizingly short of a deserved century, dismissed for a blistering 96 off 51 balls. His innings, punctuated by seven sixes, single-handedly drove the scoring rate into overdrive, propelling Pakistan to an imposing total of 215/3 in 20 overs.
Faced with a daunting target of 216, Sri Lanka's response never found its launchpad. The pressure of the scoreboard told early as Pakistan's opening bowlers maintained a tight line and length. The introduction of left-arm pacer Mohammad Imran completely broke the spine of the Sri Lankan batting lineup. Imran bowled with phenomenal control and variation, returning astonishing figures of 3 for 11 in his four overs.
Sri Lanka’s top and middle-order collapsed under the mounting required run rate, leaving them stranded with no meaningful partnerships. Spinner Maheesh Theekshana offered a late, solitary resistance from the lower order, top-scoring for his side with a 26-ball 32, but it was far too little, far too late. Sri Lanka’s innings eventually sputtered out to a disappointing 133/7 as Pakistan's disciplined bowling unit closed out a flawless defensive display.
Maaz Sadaqat is named Player of the Match for his game-changing knock. With the series already safely in the bag, the hosts will look to complete a clean sweep, while Sri Lanka faces a quick turnaround to salvage pride and fix their tactical shortcomings before the final T20I.
