Farhan and Fakhar Lay Solid Platform in PAK vs SL 2nd T20I Powerplay
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s opening pair stitched together a steady, risk-averse foundation to finish the PAK vs SL 2nd T20I powerplay at 46/0 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
After opting to field, Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis chose to exploit any initial moisture on the surface by throwing the new ball to left-arm seamer Binura Fernando and Nuwan Thushara. While the visitors successfully managed to curb the aggressive flair, they were left frustrated by their inability to break the opening partnership.
Pakistan skipper Sahibzada Farhan (24*) anchored the initial overs alongside the experienced Fakhar Zaman (22*). Sri Lanka’s bowling attack maintained tight, probing lines, conceding very few loose deliveries. Fernando set the tone with a disciplined opening spell, extracting subtle movement away from the left-handed Zaman. Thushara and mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana then followed suit, combining effectively to keep the batsmen under a tight lid.
However, Pakistan's openers exhibited smart tactical awareness, prioritizing wicket preservation over raw aggression. After a watchful first three overs, Fakhar Zaman broke the shackles by manufacturing boundaries off the pace of Eshan Malinga, punishing anything slightly short or wide. Farhan matched his partner's composure, turning over the strike with crisp deflections and finding the fence down the ground to keep the scoreboard ticking.
By the end of the six overs, Pakistan stood comfortably at 46 for no loss, scoring at an exact run rate of 7.67. For the visitors, the PAK vs SL 2nd T20I powerplay represented a missed opportunity to dent the hosts' top order, leaving their spin department with the heavy lifting in the middle overs.
