Jacobs Blitz and Clarkson Three-Fer Help New Zealand Beat Bangladesh by 6 Wickets

DHAKA: New Zealand produced a clinical all-round performance to defeat Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-curtailed third T20 International at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. New Zealand ensured the three-match series ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

In a match reduced to 15 overs per side due to persistent afternoon showers, the visitors’ superior execution with both ball and bat proved the difference. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Black Caps’ bowling unit dismantled the Bangladesh batting order for a meager 102. before Bevon Jacobs spearheaded a dominant chase to reach the DLS-adjusted target with 20 balls to spare.

Clarkson Leads Bowling Masterclass

The tone of the contest was set by the New Zealand seamers, who exploited the damp, tacky conditions to perfection. Josh Clarkson emerged as the architect of Bangladesh’s downfall, utilizing his height and subtle variations to claim 3 for 9 in a devastating spell. Bangladesh struggled to build momentum from the outset, losing wickets at regular intervals as they attempted to accelerate in the shortened format.

While Tawhid Hridoy offered some resistance with a gritty 33 and Litton Das contributed a brisk 26, the lack of a substantial middle-order partnership left the hosts vulnerable. The Tigers’ innings never truly took flight, as the Black Caps’ disciplined line and length forced errors from the set batters.

The collapse saw Bangladesh lose their final five wickets for just 18 runs, eventually being bowled out for 102 in 14.2 overs. The inability to bat out their full quota of 15 overs proved costly, leaving their bowlers with a monumental task against a New Zealand lineup that looked hungry to level the series after the second match was washed out in Chattogram.

Jacobs Blitz Silences Dhaka Crowd

The chase began with a flurry of activity as Bangladesh’s Shoriful Islam breathed life into the contest with a fiery opening spell. The left-arm quick removed Katene Clarke and Dane Cleaver early, momentarily raising hopes of a miraculous defense. However, Bevon Jacobs quickly dampened those spirits with a display of calculated aggression.

Jacobs took the game away from the hosts, smashing an unbeaten 62 off just 31 deliveries. His innings was a blend of sheer power and precision, highlighted by five boundaries and three towering sixes that sailed into the Mirpur stands.

Jacobs found steady support in the middle order, ensuring that despite Shoriful’s impressive figures of 3 for 19, the result was never in serious doubt. The victory was sealed in the 12th over, as New Zealand reached 104 for 4 to complete a professional recovery on the tour. The draw feels like a fair reflection of a series plagued by weather but marked by moments of individual brilliance.

Bangladesh will rue the missed opportunity to clinch the series on home soil, while New Zealand departs with momentum ahead of their upcoming assignments.
