KARACHI: Islamabad United dismantled the Lahore Qalandars by nine wickets in the 16th match of PSL 11 at the National Stadium. This expected thrilling match turned into a one-sided one as United chased down a modest target of 101 in just 10.2 overs. This further solidifies their position at the top of the table.
Opting to field on a surface that offered early moisture and consistent bounce, United's decision paid off early. Lahore’s top-order crumbled under the pressure of dot balls, with the aggressive opening pair failing to capitalize on the powerplay.
The middle order offered little resistance against the spin duo of Islamabad, who tightened the screws during the middle overs. Wickets fell at regular intervals as Lahore struggled to adapt to the slowing deck. By the 15th over, the Qalandars were reeling at 91-7, eventually being bundled out for a disappointing 100 in 18.3 overs.
Imad (2/13), Shadab (2/18), Green (3/19), and Gleeson (2/13) performed well with the bowl.
Any hopes of a spirited defense by the Qalandars' bowling unit were quickly extinguished by Devon Conway. The Islamabad opener played a knock of pure class and calculated aggression. While Lahore’s bowlers searched for swing, Conway used his feet brilliantly to neutralize the threat.
Conway remained anchored at the crease, finishing unbeaten on 59 off just 35 deliveries. His innings was punctuated by elegant drives and clinical pulling, reaching the target with nearly half the overs to spare. The nine-wicket victory was completed in the 11th over, sending a loud message to the rest of the league.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Islamabad United in the 2026 season. With this win, they move clear at the 2nd of the points table, boasting a superior Net Run Rate that could prove crucial for playoff seeding.
Chris Green is named for the player of the match award.
