Inter Miami Has Completed A Deal To Sign Casemiro On A Free Transfer

MIAMI: Inter Miami has completed a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Casemiro on a free transfer from Manchester United. The defensive midfielder will move to the United States as a free agent when his contract in England ends on June 30.

Casemiro is ready to join the ambitious project in Florida. The official statement will come out in the next few days.

The Pull of Messi

The chance to play alongside Lionel Messi was the main reason Casemiro chose Miami. The Brazilian midfielder had many offers from other global teams. Big clubs in Saudi Arabia and Italy wanted to sign him. However, Casemiro told his agents that he only wanted to move to South Florida.

He first talked with Inter Miami management in March. He quickly made up his mind to join the MLS team. He wants to bring his winning experience to a squad that already has several global soccer icons.

Beating the MLS Roster Hurdles

The deal was not easy to finish because of the strict MLS roster and discovery rules. Another American team, the LA Galaxy, held the priority "discovery rights" to sign Casemiro in MLS. This rule stopped Miami from signing him directly.

To fix this issue, Inter Miami had to pay a large fee to the Galaxy. Reports say Miami paid around £750,000 to buy those rights. This cleared the path to finalize the deal. The club is now waiting for final formal approval from the MLS league office before making the official announcement.

End of the Old Trafford Era

This move ends Casemiro's four-year stay at Old Trafford. He originally joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in 2022 for a huge fee of €70 million. During his time in England, he won the League Cup and the FA Cup.

He finished his last season strongly under interim manager Michael Carrick. He helped United secure a spot in the Champions League. Even though fans wanted him to stay for one more year, both Casemiro and the club decided it was time for a change.

What is Next?

Casemiro is currently away with the Brazilian national team playing in the 2026 World Cup. He will finish the tournament before traveling to Florida. He is expected to officially join the Inter Miami squad this summer when the MLS secondary transfer window opens on July 13.
