Manchester United Edge Brentford as Casemiro and Sesko Deliver Crucial Goals

Manchester United came close to sealing Champions League qualification after a 2-1 win over Brentford on Monday, with captain Bruno Fernandes moving nearer to the Premier League assist record.

Michael Carrick’s side strengthened their hold on third place with a hard-fought win at Old Trafford. The result gives them an 11-point gap over sixth-placed Brighton, with only four matches left.

Fernandes played a key role once again, setting up the team’s second goal of the season as Benjamin Sesko finished calmly after Casemiro opened the scoring with a header in what could be his final games for the club.

Brentford had chances to get back into the match. Igor Thiago missed a big opportunity, while Dango Ouattara also hit the post and Mathias Jensen tested United late on. However, the visitors could not find a way through.

Manchester United started brightly after a disappointing loss to Leeds in their previous home game. Early on, Kobbie Mainoo showed great control to set up Amad Diallo, but his shot was cleared off the line.

Harry Maguire then came close from a Fernandes cross, before both players combined for the opening goal. Fernandes delivered a corner, Maguire headed it back across goal, and Casemiro finished from close range.

The Brazilian, who is expected to leave after his contract ends this summer, celebrated by kissing the club badge as fans showed their support.

Brentford responded with more pressure after going behind, but Senne Lammens made key saves to keep United ahead. Ayden Heaven also made important interventions to stop Thiago from scoring.

United doubled their lead just before half-time. Amad won the ball high up the pitch, Fernandes carried it forward, and then calmly set up Sesko, who finished with composure.

In the end, United stayed solid under pressure and took all three points, keeping their Champions League hopes firmly on track. They would now look to win upcoming games in the Premier League to end the season on a high note.
