Asif Mehmood’s 4-Wicket Debut Blitz Leaves Islamabad United Reeling at 153/9

Asif Mehmood’s 4-Wicket Debut Blitz Leaves Islamabad United Reeling at 153/9

KARACHI: In a clash of tactical precision and raw bowling power, the Hyderabad Kingsmen restricted Islamabad United to a modest 153/9. On a surface that offered assistance to those willing to hit the deck, it was Asif Mehmood who stole the limelight, dismantling United’s middle order with a sensational four-wicket haul.

Winning the toss and electing to field, the Kingsmen’s decision initially seemed under threat as Islamabad United’s Devon Conway began with characteristic aggression. Alongside Sameer Minhas, Conway propelled United to a commanding 57/1 within the Powerplay. At that stage, a total in excess of 190 seemed well within reach, as the ball flew off the bat on a lightning-fast Karachi outfield.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically once the field spread. Hyderabad’s captain introduced spin and varied pace, drying up the boundaries. The turning point arrived when Conway, looking to accelerate, was outfoxed by a slower delivery, holing out to long-on. His departure triggered a collapse that Islamabad’s middle order struggled to arrest.

Playing his first-ever PSL game, the young pacer, Asif Mehmood, showed no signs of nerves. He struck in his very first over and continued to challenge the batters with a mix of skidding bouncers and pinpoint yorkers. His figures of 4 for 18 are a season-best for the Kingsmen. He accounted for the crucial wickets of Mark Chapman and Chris Green in quick succession, leaving the United dugout stunned.

From a comfortable 90/3 in 10 overs, Islamabad plummeted to 113/5 by the 16th over. Islamabad United finishes their 20 overs at 153/9. While the total is defendable given their potent bowling attack, the momentum sits firmly with the Kingsmen.

The Karachi surface is traditionally a chasing ground, but with the pressure of a mid-season points table battle, the 154-run chase promises to be a nerve-wracking affair. All eyes will now be on whether the Hyderabad openers can win comfortably or if United’s spinners can exploit the same grip that troubled their own batters.
