KARACHI: Islamabad United have reached a competitive 90/3 at the halfway mark of their innings against the Hyderabad Kingsmen in Match 21 of PSL 11. Despite a brisk start in the powerplay, the Kingsmen’s bowling attack, led by Mohammad Ali, has managed to strike at crucial intervals to keep the contest finely balanced at the National Stadium.
United’s innings was spearheaded by Devon Conway, who provided the early momentum. Opening alongside Sameer Minhas, Conway looked composed, navigating the new ball with precision. The breakthrough for Hyderabad came in the final over of the powerplay when Mohammad Ali snared the wicket of Minhas (22), who was caught after a quickfire 13-ball cameo. By the end of the 6th over, Islamabad stood at 57/1, maintaining a run rate of nearly 10 per over.
Following the powerplay, Hyderabad turned to their spin resources to tighten the screws. Hassan Khan and the rest of the spin unit applied significant pressure, leading to a notable shift in momentum. The middle overs proved costly for United’s discipline as they suffered a double blow, including a run-out that rocked the top order. Mohammad Faiq, who joined Conway at the crease, struggled to accelerate against the drying boundaries before falling as the third wicket.
At the 10-over mark, United sits at 90/3, with Devon Conway managing to score 45 off 31 balls before getting run out. While the run rate remains healthy, the loss of three wickets has forced the United middle order into a cautious rebuilding phase.
With the acting captain Chris Green needing to lead from the front in the absence of Shadab Khan, the next five overs will be pivotal in determining whether United can push towards a target in excess of 180.
