David Warner has expressed confidence in the Karachi Kings squad ahead of PSL 11, stating the side is capable of improving on last season’s performance as the new tournament approaches.
Speaking during a captains’ media interaction in Lahore, Warner said the team’s focus is on building consistency from the start of the season and integrating new players into the squad. He indicated that the team management is aiming to avoid the slow start that affected their previous campaign.
"Yeah, look, it's obviously good to have those guys as part of our group. For us, it's about trying to emulate a little of what we did last year and see how we can improve from how we started last year," Warner said.
The Karachi Kings captain also discussed the reduced number of venues for this season’s Pakistan Super League, noting that teams will need to adjust quickly to conditions in Karachi and Lahore.
"We had five home games, and now we're down to two venues here. There's no excuse we should get used to the venues and adapt as quickly as we can. Hopefully, we can progress better than we did last year," he said.
Warner also spoke positively about the squad assembled during the player auction, saying the team has the balance needed to compete strongly throughout the tournament.
"We've got a good group of players, and I think we did well at the auction too, giving us the chance to compete against these guys and beat them all," he added.
Warner, who continues to play franchise cricket around the world, also addressed his fitness at this stage of his career.
"Yeah, look, at 39 years of age, I'm extremely fit. Probably fitter than most 39-year-olds around the world who are still playing this game. It's just about a healthy diet, running off the field, training hard, and maintaining longevity. But to answer your question, hopefully, I can score some runs and put our team in a good position," he concluded.
The PSL 11 tournament will run from March 26 to May 3 and will feature eight teams for the first time in the competition’s history. Matches will be played in Karachi and Lahore, with the final scheduled in Lahore. Karachi Kings will begin their campaign against Quetta Gladiators at Gaddafi Stadium.
