Cummins Left SRH for Australia to Undergo Crucial Back Injury Scan

Pat Cummins has temporarily left the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp during IPL 2026 to travel back to Australia for a scheduled medical scan on his back injury. The scan will be conducted under the supervision of Cricket Australia, and the fast bowler is expected to return to India around April 17 if he receives medical clearance.

Cummins has been recovering from a back issue that has limited his appearances over the past year. His only competitive match during that period was a Test appearance in the Ashes series, while he continued rehabilitation and bowling workloads in training ahead of the IPL season.

Leadership Role Unchanged at SRH

With Cummins unavailable at the start of the tournament, Ishan Kishan was appointed captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad and will continue to lead the side until Cummins returns to match action. The team management had planned Cummins’ participation for the latter half of the tournament, depending on his recovery progress.

Before joining the squad earlier in the season, Cummins had indicated he was gradually increasing his bowling workload and targeting a return around the middle of the tournament.

SRH Pace Attack in Cummins’ Absence

In Cummins’ absence, overseas fast bowlers Eshan Malinga and David Payne have handled pace duties for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team is scheduled to play its next match against Lucknow Super Giants in Hyderabad.

Team officials remain optimistic that Cummins will be available for the second half of IPL 2026, subject to medical clearance after the scan.
