“Excessive and Unacceptable” – Blessing Muzarabani Responds to Two-Year PSL Suspension

KARACHI: Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has responded after being handed a two-year suspension from the Pakistan Super League following his withdrawal from the upcoming season to join the Indian Premier League. The decision relates to his exit from a proposed stint with Islamabad United ahead of PSL 11.

Muzarabani later signed with Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. However, his involvement in the IPL has been limited so far, featuring in only two matches out of six.

Player’s Camp Responds to Decision

In a statement issued through his representatives, Muzarabani’s camp addressed both the ban and the criticism that followed on social media. They said they had initially avoided public comment to prevent escalating the matter with the Pakistan Cricket Board and PSL organisers.

The statement described the backlash as “excessive and unacceptable” and provided details of the timeline leading up to the player’s decision. It said discussions with Islamabad United began in mid-February but were dependent on clearance from Zimbabwe Cricket.

According to the representatives, no formal contract was finalised during that period. They added that Muzarabani accepted the IPL offer later in the month after uncertainty over the agreement.

“A player cannot breach an agreement that was never formalised,” the statement said.

Call for Review of Ban

Muzarabani’s camp also questioned the severity of the sanction, calling it “excessive and inconsistent” when compared with similar cases in the past. They urged PSL authorities to reconsider the decision, suggesting the situation stemmed from administrative delays rather than a contractual violation.

The development highlights ongoing tensions between franchise leagues as players balance overlapping commitments, with the case now likely to remain under review.
