Arshdeep Singh Fined for Daryl Mitchell Incident in T20 World Cup 2026 Final

Arshdeep Singh Fined for Daryl Mitchell Incident in T20 World Cup 2026 Final

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh was reprimanded by the International Cricket Council for a Level 1 breach of its code of conduct after he threw the ball towards New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell on his follow-through, striking him on the pads during the 11th over.

The incident sparked a brief confrontation as Singh returned to his mark without apologizing. India captain Suryakumar Yadav intervened to address the situation, while on-field umpire Richard Illingworth also had a word with the pacer. Singh eventually apologised to Mitchell after completing the over.

ICC Sanction and Procedures

Singh accepted the penalty proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, removing the need for a formal hearing. The sanction involved a fine of 15% of his match fee under Article 2.9, which pertains to throwing the ball or any cricket equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate manner.

The charge was initiated by match officials including on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, third umpire Allahuddien Palekar, and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock. This Level 1 breach carries a minimum reprimand and a maximum fine of 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Arshdeep Singh’s disciplinary record over the past 24 months is clean, making this his first offence in that period. The ICC emphasised that the punishment reflects the need to uphold safety and sportsmanship standards during high-intensity matches like World Cup finals.
