Suryakumar Yadav Reflects on Carrying Forward Rohit Sharma’s Legacy in T20 Cricket

Suryakumar Yadav is well aware of the fact that Indian cricket fans are looking towards him to take the legacy of Rohit Sharma ahead in T20 cricket. Keeping that in view, he wants to give every member of his team full freedom to play their natural game, as it will help to bring the best out of them in the ICC T20 World Cup final.

The Indian captain said that he does not want to act like a father or older brother to anyone, as the young players in the dressing room are mature enough to understand their responsibilities on the field.

“I started to relate to this team after 5-6 months (of captaincy). After that, I understood that there is no point in being a big brother or a father. You have to leave them.” said Suryakumar Yadav while talking to the reporters.

“There is no point in holding on to them. You have to leave them open. Only then you can get the best from them,” added Suryakumar Yadav.

He then talked about the days when he played alongside Rohit Sharma, stating that he learned a lot from him by closely observing his on-field tactics.

“I played a lot of cricket with Rohit. I know how he worked. So, I tried to implement the same things with a few thoughts of mine as well. And it's worked really well,” said Suryakumar Yadav.

When asked whether there is any pressure on him, Suryakumar replied that a captain of the team always bears pressure in big games. He further added that featuring in such high-value matches also brings excitement, because playing a World Cup final in India is not an ordinary feat at all.

“Yes, obviously, as a leader, there will definitely be pressure on me. I am not saying that there will be no pressure. But at the same time, there is a lot of excitement because you don't always get a chance to play in the World Cup final. And that too in India.” said Suryakumar Yadav.
