Arsenal Defeat Burnley To Move Closer To Premier League Title

Arsenal moved closer to winning their first Premier League title in 22 years after beating Burnley 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the match with a header from a corner late in the first half. However, he was lucky to avoid a red card later in the game after making a dangerous challenge.

The win puts Mikel Arteta’s side five points ahead of Manchester City, who now need to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday night to keep the title race alive until the final day.

Talking about the match, Arsenal played with a lot of patience as they worked their way towards the opening goal at the Emirates Stadium.

Their first real chance came when Leandro Trossard created space for himself and fired a low shot toward the near post from outside the box. Eberechi Eze then tested the keeper with a long-range hooked volley, getting Arsenal’s first shot on target.

Mikel Arteta was angry when Bukayo Saka was not given a penalty after a challenge with Lucas Pires, while Martin Odegaard also came close, but his shot from inside the box took a slight deflection and went just wide.

The home side didn’t have to wait long from the corner, as they finally broke the deadlock. It was Arsenal’s 18th goal of the season from set-piece corners, a new record. Kai Havertz jumped above everyone in the six-yard box and headed the ball into the net, also giving Bukayo Saka his 50th Premier League assist.

That goal sent them into half-time in control, and they came out looking for more. Eberechi Eze came close again, but his effort was tipped onto the crossbar by Max Weiß.

Arsenal were still behind Manchester City on goals scored, so they kept pushing for another goal to improve their goal difference, just in case it becomes important on the final day.

Kai Havertz went in a bit too strongly on Lesley Ugochukwu, but referee Paul Tierney chose not to send him off. Leandro Trossard then tried his luck, but his shot went just wide of the top corner.

The home side were also given a lot of added time to find a second goal, but in the end they were happy to take the three points.

Arsenal have now recorded three 1-0 wins in a row, and that run means the Premier League title could head back to North London if Manchester City fail to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday. In that case, the Gunners would not even need to wait for their final game against Crystal Palace. It would also allow them more time to get ready for the upcoming UEFA Champions League final.
