Manchester City Keep Premier League Title Race Alive With Big Win Over Crystal Palace

Manchester City kept their slim chances of winning the Premier League alive after beating Crystal Palace 3-0. Pep Guardiola made several changes to his lineup with the FA Cup final coming up, but City still stretched their unbeaten home run to 17 matches and cut Arsenal’s lead down to two points with two games left.

The home side had an early scare when Brennan Johnson broke through and set up Jean-Philippe Mateta, who took a shot on goal. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a quick save to keep it out. Mateta also appealed for a check on a possible goal-line decision, but the assistant’s offside flag had already been raised from the original pass.

City did not get any help from an offside flag later, and it was Josko Gvardiol who stepped in, blocking Yeremy Pino’s shot at the right moment.

As usual, Guardiola’s team controlled most of the ball, but they struggled to create clear chances as the first half went on.

That changed just after the half-hour mark when Phil Foden lifted the tempo with a smart backheel, setting up Antoine Semenyo, who finished past Dean Henderson.

That goal opened the game up, and Manchester City quickly scored a second before half-time. This time, Omar Marmoush finished off another fine pass from Phil Foden.

At that stage, Crystal Palace were under heavy pressure, and Dean Henderson had to pull off a strong save to stop Josko Gvardiol from adding a third.

The second half followed much the same pattern, with Manchester City not needing to push too hard, while Oliver Glasner turned to his stronger options from the bench.

Interestingly, Erling Haaland stayed on the sidelines for the whole match, while Crystal Palace brought on Adam Wharton, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Ismaila Sarr.

Still, those changes didn’t really shift the game, and Savinho made sure of the win in the 84th minute after a neat pass from substitute Rayan Cherki.

Manchester City now turn their attention to the FA Cup final against Chelsea, but they will still keep an eye on the Premier League race. This result keeps them in a good spot to benefit if Arsenal slip up, helped by their stronger goal difference.
