Zimbabwe Scored 143 in 3rd T20 After Dion Myers Masterclass

BULAWAYO: A brilliant half-century from Dion Myers rescued Zimbabwe from a middle-overs choke, steering the hosts to a competitive 143 for 7 against Bangladesh in the 3rd T20I at the Queens Sports Club.

Opting to bat first on a dry Bulawayo surface, Zimbabwe found early momentum through opening batsman Brian Bennett, who aggressively took on the new ball to smash 47 off 38 deliveries, laced with 8 boundaries. Alongside Tadiwanashe Marumani, Bennett guided the hosts to a solid foundation in powerplay, pushing the score to a comfortable 69 for 1 at the halfway mark.

However, the introduction of Bangladesh's spin-and-seam variations broke the game wide open. The Tigers staged a ruthless institutional collapse in the middle periods, drying up the boundaries and triggering a cluster of quick wickets. Skipper Sikandar Raza was kept quiet, managing just 3 runs off 6 balls before falling to the pressure, while Ryan Burl (7) and Milton Shumba (4) failed to break free under a disciplined, squeeze-and-strike bowling display.

Amid the falling wickets, Dion Myers played an absolute masterclass. Stepping up as the anchor, Myers single-handedly dragged the home side out of trouble, registering a sparkling 73 runs off 53 balls. His crucial knock was decorated with 7 fours and two sixes, providing the late-overs oxygen the Chevrons desperately needed.

Bangladesh’s bowling unit fought back superbly to restrict Zimbabwe under the 150-run mark. Seamer Mohammad Saifuddin was the primary disruptor, changing the landscape of the death overs to finish with excellent figures of 2 for 35 in his 4-over quota. 

The spinners provided critical structural support to strangulate the hosts. Rishad Hossain kept his composure to pick up 1 for 28, while Mahedi Hasan and debutant Abdul Gaffar Saqlain mirrored each other with highly economical spells, both returning identical figures of 1 for 31 from their 4 overs. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed went wicketless but delivered immense tactical pressure, leaking just 16 runs across his highly restrictive 4-over spell.

With the series deadlocked at 1-1, the equation is set: Bangladesh requires a highly manageable but potentially tricky 144 runs to win at a required run rate of 7.20 to salvage their multi-format tour.
