Brisbane Heat kept their season alive in the Big Bash League 2025/26 by beating Hobart Hurricanes by a slender three-run margin to defend their total of 160 for 8. The game took a turn in the dying overs. Hobart were cruising at 124 for 2, but then they collapsed, losing six wickets for just 32 runs and turning a comfortable chase into a collapse.
Zaman Khan remained composed under pressure, with Robart needing six runs in the final over. He only gave two runs and claimed the match-winning wicket of Nikhil Chaudhary on the second-last ball, completing one of the most dramatic endings in the season. Matt Renshaw had been significant previously, when a fantastic stop in deep mid-wicket in the 18th over saved five runs and was the difference in the game.
The Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes contest seemed firmly in Hobart’s grasp after they recovered from an early wobble at 26 for 2 following the powerplay. Ben McDermott was reprieved on 1 after a missed chance at deep square leg, a moment that proved costly. He went on to build a crucial 98-run partnership with Beau Webster that placed Hurricanes in a commanding position.
Although other opportunities arose, Marnus Labuschagne broke the partnership by dismissing Webster in the 15th over. The defending champions of the day had fallen, and the tide had been turned.
Earlier, Brisbane Heat posted 160 for 8 after failing to fully capitalize on a promising start. From 110 for 2, they lost momentum as Hobart’s deep bowling attack applied sustained pressure. Nathan McSweeney’s 49 and Matt Renshaw’s 37 gave the innings structure, but Heat lost 6 for 59 late on.
Hobart were excellent in the closing overs, though an injury to Chris Jordan added concern. In the end, Heat’s bowlers held their nerve, sealing a result that kept their Big Bash League hopes alive and denied Hurricanes a chance to secure two home finals.
