World Cup 2026 Set to Rewrite History With New Records and Milestones

The upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 promises to deliver more than just football action. Scheduled across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, the tournament will feature 48 teams and 104 matches, making it the largest World Cup ever staged.

As fans prepare for another unforgettable month of football, several remarkable statistics and records are already drawing attention.

Brazil Still Lead the Trophy Race

No nation has enjoyed greater success at the World Cup than Brazil. The South American giants remain the tournament's most successful team with five titles, won in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002.

Germany and Italy follow with four World Cup triumphs each. On the individual front, Pele remains the only player to win three World Cup titles, lifting the trophy in 1958, 1962, and 1970.

Goal-Scoring Greats Remain Untouched

Germany's Miroslav Klose continues to hold the record for the most goals in World Cup history, scoring 16 goals in 24 matches across four tournaments.

Other legendary names on the list include Ronaldo of Brazil with 15 goals, Gerd Muller with 14, and Lionel Messi with 13. France star Kylian Mbappe has already reached 12 goals and could move closer to Klose's mark during this edition.

The record for most goals in a single World Cup remains with France's Just Fontaine, who scored an incredible 13 goals during the 1958 tournament.

Young Stars and Veteran Icons

Mexico's Gilberto Mora enters the competition as the youngest player at 17 years and 240 days when the tournament begins on June 11.

At the other end of the scale, Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon will be 43 years and 162 days old at the tournament opener. Football icons Cristiano Ronaldo, Guillermo Ochoa, Luka Modric, Manuel Neuer, and Lionel Messi also feature among the most experienced players at the event.

Bigger Prize Money and New Nations

The tournament will also feature a record prize pool of $727m, with the champions receiving $50m. Every participating nation is guaranteed at least $10.5m.

Four nations will make their World Cup debuts: Cape Verde, Uzbekistan, Jordan, and Curacao. Curacao, with a population of just 158,000 people, becomes the smallest nation ever to qualify for the competition.

Clubs and Countries Well Represented

Manchester City leads all clubs with 19 players selected for the tournament, followed by Bayern Munich with 18. Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal have 16 representatives each.

With 71 nationalities represented across the competition and numerous World Cup Records potentially under threat, World Cup 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most historic editions ever. Fans can follow all the latest football action, updates, and analysis throughout the tournament on tapmad.
