West Indies Women Hammer Pakistan to Stay on Top of Tri-Series Table

West Indies Women Hammer Pakistan to Stay on Top of Tri-Series Table

Chinelle Henry played a key role with the bat and ball to give West Indies Women an astounding victory over Pakistan. Her all-round effort helped WI to beat the green shirts by 25 runs in the second match of the Ireland-hosted T20I tri-series at Castle Avenue on Friday.

West Indies posted a mammoth total of 199 in the first innings, courtesy of Hayley Matthews and Chinelle Henry brilliant knocks. Their strong hitting stunned the inexperienced Pakistan side that failed to contain their batting momentum in the first innings.

Chasing a tough target of 200, Pakistan Women managed 174 for 8 in their 20 overs and ended up losing their opening game of the series. Aliya Riaz starred with 37 runs, but her late push was not enough for Pakistan to win the game.

Talking about the chase, Pakistan Women had a poor start in the second innings, losing three wickets in the first four overs while scoring just 28 runs.

After the early setbacks, Saira Jabeen tried to push back with a quick 30 off 19 balls, but she was dismissed by Ashmini Munisar on the last ball of the powerplay. Before getting out, she had shared a 24-run stand with Rameen Shamim, though most of the scoring came from her.

Later, Shamim teamed up with middle-order batter Iram Javed and the pair added 32 runs for the fourth wicket. However, both were run out in quick succession, which hurt Pakistan’s momentum.

Aliya Riaz then came to the crease in the 14th over to support the skipper Fatima Sana. The pair added a fighting 27-run stand before Riaz was dismissed by Jahzara Claxton in the 17th over.

Fatima Sana then kept going but got out on the second ball of the final over. She played a quick 27 off 14 balls, hitting two sixes and four fours, but Pakistan still needed 30 runs from the last four deliveries.

Shawnisha Hector conceded only four runs in the final four balls as West Indies comfortably defended the 200-run target. With this win, they picked up their second straight victory in the T20I tri-series and stayed on top of the table.
