Matthew Wade was composed and was the difference maker with Hobart Hurricanes winning another match over Melbourne Renegades, chasing 162 with an over in hand. Wade remained unbeaten on 43 off 20 balls and guided the chase calmly to the finish as the Hurricanes scored 163 for 6.

The Renegades had posted 162 for 9, led by Oliver Peake’s 29, with Nathan Ellis and Rishad Hossain keeping the visitors in check through the middle overs. Their combined pressure meant the innings never fully lifted, even after an explosive start from Josh Brown and Tim Seifert.

Wade Holds Firm In The Chase

Wade had the best finish in a chase where most Hurricanes batters did not go beyond 30. Adam Zampa took 3 for 25, while Hassan Khan and Andrew Tye supported well. Zampa struck in the same over, and Tim Ward and Ben McDermott were both out, leaving the Hurricanes with 59 for 3.

Rehan Ahmed, who made 23, helped steady the innings, levelled the game, and took the hosts back on track. At that point, Wade composed himself and scored three sixes and a four across the last eight deliveries to ensure victory.

It put Hobart at a 4-1 season record, and the Renegades are at 1-2, and they remain at the bottom of the table.

Renegades Start Fast But Stall

Josh Brown smashed 26 off 13 balls and took 16 runs from the opening over, with Tim Seifert matching the aggression by striking 26 off 14.

Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 14 out of 8, and Oliver Peake scored 29 out of 22, but neither of them lasted long enough to give the innings an anchor.

Rishad Hossain’s 2 for 34 added further pressure, as it put the Renegades on the defensive rather than on the offensive. They eventually closed on 162 for 9, a score that appeared competitive but lacked a defining partnership.

Hurricanes Close Out Another Steady Performance

With the ball in his hand, Ellis finished with 3 for 30, reinforcing his impact across both innings. Once Wade took charge late in the chase, the Hurricanes never looked out of control.

For Hurricanes fans, Wade’s measured display and the attack’s discipline again showed why this side remains firmly in the mix.
