Virat Kohli is Open for 2027 World Cup Selection

Virat Kohli is Open for 2027 World Cup Selection

India batting star Virat Kohli has said he could consider extending his international career to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, depending on whether he still feels he can contribute to the team setup. The comments came during a podcast released on Friday by his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The 37-year-old, who now plays only One Day Internationals for India, said his continuation at the highest level would depend on his role within the side and the environment around him.

"If I can add value to the environment that I'm a part of, and the environment feels like I can add value, I'll be seen," he said in the podcast posted by his IPL franchise team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

"If I'm made to feel like I need to prove my worth and my value, I'm not in that space."

The discussion comes at a time when Kohli’s position in Indian cricket has been under focus. His central contract was moved down a grade by the Board of Control for Cricket in India earlier this year, even as he remains one of the most experienced batters in the ODI setup.

Kohli added that his motivation to continue playing remains strong, particularly in international cricket.

"I want to play cricket and I want to carry on," he said. "Playing a World Cup for India is amazing."

The keyword Virat Kohli Open for 2027 World Cup reflects the growing discussion around his long-term future, especially with the next ODI World Cup cycle still ahead.

IPL Form and Recent Performances

Virat Kohli's recent form is incredible in the ongoing Indian Premier league. He scored an unbeaten century, and the knock was his ninth IPL hundred and his first of the current season. This helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru secure a key win.

He had earlier stepped away from Test cricket in 2025 and retired from T20 internationals after India’s 2024 World Cup triumph. This narrowed his international focus to the ODI format.

Despite speculation around his future, Kohli maintained that his decision to continue would depend on performance and clarity of role rather than external expectations.
