Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 105 against Kolkata Knight Riders to register his 10th T20 hundred and become the fastest batter to reach 14,000 T20 runs. The innings also marked his ninth IPL century for RCB.
With that innings, Virat Kohli IPL century headlines exploded across cricket circles within minutes.
Kohli had walked into the match after back-to-back ducks against Lucknow and Mumbai. Questions were building around his rhythm. Some wondered if fatigue had finally caught up. Instead, he delivered one of the sharpest knocks of the season.
Gasps echoed around the stadium every time he found the midwicket boundary. KKR bowlers kept changing plans, but nothing slowed him down. He looked completely locked in.
The century also carried another massive milestone. Kohli became the fastest batter in history to complete 14,000 runs in T20 cricket. He reached the mark in just 409 innings, beating Chris Gayle’s previous record of 423.
The RCB batter also moved past MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to become the most capped player in IPL history with 279 appearances. And yet, the most surprising part came later. This was Kohli’s first IPL hundred after entering a match on consecutive ducks.
You could feel the tension building before the innings began. By the end, KKR looked stunned, no doubt about it. Now, the playoff race feels very different.
