Rachin Ravindra is one of those names that let you know how a raw talent can find its way even when there’s no light to guide. The young New Zealand batting sensation has showcased stunning performances in international cricket in recent times. His immense skills were on full display during the last test tour of India, where he performed superbly.
After that series, Rachin Ravindra once again came into the limelight during the Champions Trophy, where he remained a star performer for New Zealand throughout the tournament. This was certainly a breakthrough tournament for the young star, as his performances allowed New Zealand to reach the final of the mega event.
Rachin is now gearing up to achieve bigger feats in the upcoming tournaments. He is committed to taking his game to the next level, as expectations from him are already high ever since he entered international cricket.
In this article, we will take a quick overview of how Rachin rose to the limelight by working hard relentlessly. He is a talent who has climbed the ladder through performances, not by taking advantage of the likeness of his name to an Indian batting legend.
Rachin Ravindra was a fan of cricket from a very young age. His batting instincts became evident to everyone when he started to dominate school cricket. When he was in year 11, he became part of a lineup that won national championships. This gave the young Rachin greater confidence as he began to pursue professional cricket seriously.
At an early age, Rachin started to learn things by imitating the shots of batting greats. He followed the likes of Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, and others to learn the art of batting. This is the reason why his skills grew rapidly, giving him a distinctive edge over other kids of his age in school.
Rachin Ravindra is one of those players who works hard to improve his game regularly. Despite achieving so much to date, he still wants more in his game. That is why he keeps on practicing to learn new things, so that his performances can give the NZ team a definite lead over others.
"Achieved that much? I know exactly what you mean. It's interesting. From a youngish age, you sort of get labelled as whatever. But for me, it comes down to why I play. Obviously, I love playing cricket because the fans get to watch me and I find that amazing,” said Rachin Ravindra.
"But at the end of the day, it's because I enjoy it. I want to get better at it. So it's almost irrelevant about me trying to prove my ability to other people. I love playing for a team. I'm playing and I'm trying to win games for that team. So that, for me, drives me," said Rachin Ravindra.
When Rachin made his debut in international cricket, things didn’t work well for him initially. His performances in the beginning were quite disappointing. However, he had the belief to turn things around quickly.
"You get given an opportunity at a young age, potentially in a role you're not necessarily ready for. And you want to impress and think this is my journey and this is how it's supposed to go. And then it doesn't work out and you sit back and think, 'wow'," said Rachin Ravindra.
After facing early hiccups, Rachin revisited the board and came back as a much better player. Fortunately, his performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup justified his selection, as he performed superbly for the Kiwis throughout the tournament.
"I knew I was a better player. I had a better mindset, I'd done more research and worked on a few things I felt like I needed. I guess I was lucky that the timing worked out to be leading up to the World Cup," said Rachin Ravindra.
The performances in that tournament gave the world a first glimpse of Rachin’s talent. He evolved from being just a namesake of an Indian legend to an independent, rising batting prodigy in the world of cricket. Since then, he has not looked back, making sure to take his game further up by bringing in new enhancements.
Rachin Ravindra is termed a generational player by many cricketing greats. These remarks showcase why he is the next big thing in New Zealand cricket after Kane Williamson. The good thing about this young star is that he does not think too much about these appreciations, as he remains committed to becoming better day by day. This is definitely a hallmark of a great player, and it suits Ravindra perfectly due to his exceptional focus and work ethic.
