Ishan Kishan’s confident knock in the 2nd T20I match between India vs New Zealand was breathtaking, as it allowed the home team to recover from an early collapse. The captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav, was full of praise for Ishan, as he termed it a selfless approach shown by the Indian youngster. He said the positive attitude of Ishan stood out in today’s match, and it is something the team wants from every player.
"I didn't know what Ishan had in the afternoon for lunch or what pre-workout he had before the game, but I have never seen anyone bat [like that]. At 6 for 2, batting that way, ending the powerplay around 67, 70 [75 for 2], I think it was incredible.” said Suryakumar Yadav at the post-match press conference.
"I think this is what we want from batters going out there, to express themselves, be happy in their own space, and that's what he did today." added Suryakumar Yadav.
Speaking about his own performance in the 2nd T20I, Suryakumar said that the hard work he put in during net sessions finally paid off on the field.
"As I said before also, I was batting really well in the nets, and everything which I did back home in the last 2 or 3 weeks [helped], I got a good break to spend time with my family, my friends. I think I had good practice sessions as well, and I think I'm enjoying what's happening right now." said Suryakumar Yadav.
The captain then reaffirmed that India will keep playing the same brand of cricket, as it is helping the team currently to perform positively in the field.
“I want to keep them in their happy space. We want to continue playing the same brand of cricket, irrespective of what's happening [with results] and leave no stones unturned." concluded Suryakumar Yadav.
