Sunrisers Eastern Cape defeated Pretoria Capitals by 48 runs in the ongoing SA20 2026 league. They showcased complete performance in both innings of the game, as Capitals looked completely out of touch in today’s match. Quinton de Kock was the star performer for Sunrisers Eastern Cape, as he scored 77 off 47 balls in the first innings of the match.
Pretoria Capitals endured a disappointing outing in Gqeberha, where they bowled out for 140 runs inside 18 overs. They struggled to contain Sunrisers in both innings of the match, which is why they never looked settled against them.
Batting first, Sunrisers lost the in-form Jonny Bairstow early in the Powerplay. His dismissal brought Matthew Breetzke to the crease who struck the ball aggressively to negate all the pressure put on by Pretoria Capitals bowlers.
Alongside Matthew Breetzke, Quinton de Kock played smartly to take the game away from Pretoria Capitals. His striking in Powerplay was outstanding, as he didn’t give Pretoria Capitals attack any chance to put more pressure on them.
As a result of a strong partnership between Matthew Breetzke and Quinton de Kock, Sunrisers Eastern Cape dominated the first ten overs of the match. Quinton de Kock was looking well set to hit yet another century, however, a clever delivery from Parsons ended his spectacular batting show. He went back to the pavilion after scoring a stunning 77 off 47 balls, which included five fours and six sixes.
Soon after his dismissal, Matthew Breetzke was also sent back, but it was a little too late to make a difference. Breetzke returned to the dugout after scoring 52 runs, giving the other batters a solid platform to accelerate in the death overs.
The incoming batters took advantage of the base set by the top order. They smashed quick runs at the end to lift the scoring rate, helping Sunrisers Eastern Cape to post 188 on the board in the first innings of the match.
When Pretoria Capitals came out to chase the target, they started aggressively. They dominated the Powerplay on the back of some solid hitting from West Indies star Shai Hope. Unfortunately, he could not go on to make a big score, as Adam Milne castled him with a beauty in the final over of the Powerplay. Hope was dismissed after scoring a quick 36 runs, which included five fours and a six.
After his dismissal, the middle order of Pretoria Capitals collapsed quickly. Will Smeed held one end firmly, however, no one supported him at the other end. Due to that, he also lost his wicket in the 10th over after scoring 35 runs.
After sending the main batting lineup back to the pavilion, Sunrisers removed the tail of Capitals quickly. As a result, they bowled out Pretoria Capitals for 140 runs inside 18 overs. This allowed Sunrisers Eastern Cape to win the match by 48 runs, which made their position quite strong on the points table.
