Sunrisers Eastern Cape defeated Joburg Super Kings by 61 runs in the recent SA20 clash. They won the match due to the allround performance of James Coles, who made a strong impact in both innings of the game. His superb knock of 61 runs made all the difference in the recent Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Joburg Super Kings game, as it allowed the table-toppers to post 178 on the board in the first innings.
Batting first, Sunrisers Eastern Cape came up with a positive intent, with both openers playing aggressively in the Powerplay. The innings of Quinton de Kock was highly impressive, as he took down the bowling attack of Joburg Super Kings confidently. He scored a superb 54 off just 37 balls, before Donovan Ferreira dismissed him in the 11th over.
After the wicket of Quinton de Kock, the middle order of Sunrisers Eastern Cape struggled badly as Super Kings dismissed Matthew Breetzke and Jordan Hermann quickly. These back-to-back wickets gave them a hope to come back into the match, however, a stunning knock by James Coles towards the end of the innings gave Sunrisers a huge edge in the match.
Striking at 179, he scored quick 61 runs off just 34 balls, helping Sunrisers Eastern Cape to post 178 on the board.
When Joburg Super Kings came out to chase the target, they started the innings cautiously. Their openers were playing steadily in the beginning, until James Coles removed them with some smart bowling display. James Vince went back to the pavilion after scoring 30, whereas Rivaldo Moonsamy managed to score just 10 runs.
After their dismissal, the middle order of Super Kings failed to put up any fight. They crumbled under pressure, as Sunrisers Eastern Cape kept taking wickets quickly. The captain of JSK, Donovan Ferreira, also failed to make any impact, as he got out after scoring just 11 runs.
Due to a commanding bowling display by Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Joburg Super Kings skittled for just 117 runs in the second innings. This allowed Sunrisers to win the match by 61 runs, securing first position on the SA20 2026 points table.
