Sialkot Stallionz, the latest franchise of the Pakistan Super League, has completed the contract of former Australian captain Steve Smith. The group directly signed Smith before the first player auction of the league on February 11, 2026.
This development comes shortly after Sialkot Stallionz was launched as one of the two new PSL franchises. The team’s ownership rights were acquired by OZ Developers, led by Hamza Majeed and Kamil Khan, during the historic PSL 2026 auction at Jinnah Convention Centre on January 8. OZ Developers secured the franchise with a record bid of Rs 1.85 billion, making it the most expensive PSL franchise deal to date.
Earlier, the Stallionz appointed former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Tim Paine as head coach. Smith will play under his former international teammate, Tim Paine, in the 11th season of the PSL. This will be Smith’s inaugural season in the glamorous T20 league, having never played in the PSL before.
Smith arrives in Pakistan in excellent form, having excelled in Big Bash League 15 for Sydney Sixers. He played six matches, amassing 299 runs at an average of 59.80 and a strike rate of 167.97, including a stunning 42-ball century. Over his T20 career, Smith has featured in 272 matches, scoring 6,242 runs at an average of 32.68 and a strike rate of 131.38, with five centuries and 30 half-centuries.
Under PSL 11 regulations, franchises are allowed one direct signing of a foreign player who did not participate in PSL 10. Sialkot Stallionz appear to have used this provision to secure Smith, adding a major boost to their squad ahead of the auction.
With Steve Smith on board, Sialkot Stallionz aim to combine experience and in-form batting to challenge established PSL teams. Fans will be eager to see the Australian star in action under Tim Paine’s guidance as the league kicks off.
