MIRPUR: Pakistan will be without young batter Shamyl Hussain for the series decider of the third ODI against Bangladesh after the 21-year-old was sidelined with a neck muscle spasm, the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed on Saturday.
Shamyl, who was introduced to international cricket earlier in the series, has been under medical observation after complaining of discomfort in his neck. Team medical staff are currently treating the issue, and the board said his condition is being monitored ahead of further assessments.
The right-hander had limited success with the bat in his first two appearances. He managed only single-digit scores in both outings and could not establish himself during the ongoing ODI series.
Pakistan were also forced to deal with another injury setback during the previous match when all-rounder Hussain Talat hurt his shoulder while fielding. The incident happened early in Bangladesh’s innings as he sprinted across the cover region in an attempt to stop a powerful shot played by Litton Das off the bowling of Mohammad Wasim Jr.
Talat’s momentum carried him into the boundary boards, after which he appeared in visible discomfort. Medical staff attended to him immediately before he left the field and was replaced during the match.
The PCB later issued a statement confirming the nature of the injury and the next steps in his evaluation.
“Hussain Talat sustained a shoulder injury while fielding during the second ODI against Bangladesh,” the PCB said in a statement.
“He received immediate medical attention from the team's medical staff on the field. Following the initial assessment, he has been taken to a hospital for a detailed examination. The nature and extent of the injury will be determined after the doctors complete further medical evaluation.”
Pakistan made changes to the playing combination following the two injury concerns. Young wicketkeeper-batter Ghazi Ghori was handed his international debut in Shamyl’s absence, while Saad Masood was drafted into the side as cover after Talat’s injury.
The adjustments leave Pakistan reshuffling their lineup ahead of the final match of the ODI series.
