Pakistan ODI captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, urged the team to improve their batting performance to produce a more dominant score in the next match against Bangladesh. Although he was happy to win the second ODI by a big margin, he stressed the team to pay attention to the middle order batting, so that they do not face sudden collapses at crucial moments of the game.
"I think losing back-to-back wickets after a good opening stand is something we need to improve as a team," said Shaheen Shah Afridi at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Afridi’s comments reflected on the collapse the Pakistan team suffered during the second ODI at Dhaka. Both Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Rizwan batted confidently during the middle overs, however, a bizarre run-out of Agha in the 39th over triggered a sudden batting collapse of the green shirts. They lost five wickets for just 43 runs in that phase of the match, as Bangladesh bowled superbly to keep the pressure on lower order batters.
Speaking about the last match, Shaheen Shah Afridi acknowledged that it didn’t go in their favor, but the message to the team was clear after that. He wanted everyone to play their natural game, as it is the best way to turn things around when the situation is tough.
"The last game didn't go our way. The simple message was to go and play your natural game," Pakistan ODI captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Shaheen then applauded the performance of Maaz Sadaqat, who was absolutely brilliant against Bangladesh in the second ODI at Dhaka. He said the whole team is happy for Maaz, as he played his natural game and showcased his skills when the team needed them the most.
"I'm really happy for Maaz Sadaqat, the youngster had a very good game, and the whole team is pleased for him." concluded Shaheen Shah Afridi.
