“New Grounds Will Excite Fans” – Shaheen Backs New-Look Qalandars as Lahore Begins PSL 11 Title Defense

ISLAMABAD: Shaheen Afridi believes the inclusion of overseas recruits and the addition of new venues will enhance the upcoming Pakistan Super League season, as defending champions Lahore Qalandars prepare for PSL 2026, scheduled from March 26 to May 3.

Speaking during a training camp, Afridi said the squad has been refreshed with new signings and expects the changes to improve the competition’s reach.

“For PSL 11, several new players have joined the team, including foreign players. Matches will also be held at new grounds, which will further excite fans and allow them to enjoy the cricket even more,” he stated.

Lahore will begin their title defence against debutants Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium. The expanded tournament will feature eight teams, with matches also scheduled in Faisalabad and Peshawar for the first time alongside established centres.

Focus on Development Pathway

Shaheen Afridi highlighted the franchise’s long-term approach, pointing to the role of its development programme in producing players for higher levels.

“Winning the trophy is one thing, but the best achievement has been bringing forward players from the player development programme and giving them opportunities. Now, these players are performing at both national and regional levels,” he said.

He added that pre-season camps and trials remain central to team preparation. “Lahore Qalandars organise camps well before the PSL begins so that new players get a chance to understand and get to know each other,” he said.

The tournament will run over 39 days, with 44 matches scheduled and the final set for May 3 in Lahore.
