Ireland has been hit by an unexpected injury scare, as their top-order batter, Ross Adair, has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. He sustained a bone stress in the knee, which has now forced him to seek medical consultation immediately. The opener will be replaced by Jordan Neill in the T20I series, who is currently playing in the test matches against Bangladesh.
The loss of Ross Adair will be a tough blow for the Ireland team. He played three T20Is this year, in which his batting at the top was quite breathtaking. Unfortunately, he is now sidelined from the upcoming T20I series, which means he will now complete his recovery back at home. It is expected that the opener will come back to the national fold just before the T20 World Cup, which is slated to start from February next year.
Talking about Jordan Neill, he was selected as part of the 15-man test squad for the Bangladesh tour. The sudden injury of Ross Adair means that he will now stay with the team until the completion of the T20I series. It will be a good opportunity for the youngster to showcase his talent, as performing well in this series could open doors for him ahead of the 2026 T20I World Cup.
Speaking about Ross Adair’s injury, Ireland’s national selector, Andrew White, said that losing him is a big jolt to the T20I team. He added that the management was looking forward to seeing Ross Adair’s performance in the upcoming series, however, a sudden injury has set back many of their plans.
"It's very unfortunate to have lost Ross on the eve of the Bangladesh tour, he really demonstrated his value at the top of the T20I order during the few chances he had in 2025, and we were looking forward to seeing him perform against Bangladesh," said Andrew White, Ireland’s national selector.
He further added that the team will try to utilize different combinations on this tour, as that will help them to finalize some plans for the 2026 T20I World Cup. He is confident that Ireland will produce positive results in the upcoming matches, as there are plenty of match-winners present in the squad.
"There are a couple of combinations that we are keen to explore as we build up to next year's T20 World Cup. Jordan Neill will stay on as part of the T20I squad to provide valuable cover to the wider group. We have players that in the past showed they are capable of deputising at the top of the order - this allows us to adjust the batting line-up and create greater flexibility through the middle and late overs.” said Andrew White.
He then spoke about the left-hander Ben Calitz, who has just been included in the T20I squad. The national selectors expect Ben to solidify the middle order of the team, as they have been struggling in this batting area for quite some time.
"The left-handed Ben Calitz coming into the middle order will provide us with the variety we have struggled with over recent years - and this tour gives us a much-needed opportunity to see how a number of players adapt to different situations and conditions." said Andrew White.
The upcoming T20I series between Ireland and Bangladesh promises to be a thrilling contest. The visitors are confident to deliver a strong performance in this series, as it will give them a chance to understand the subcontinent conditions effectively. The injury of Ross Adair is a big setback for them, however, there are plenty of stars still present in the squad who could produce match-winning performances for Ireland in the upcoming series.
