KARACHI: In a clash that defied the season’s form guide, the Rawalpindiz finally ignited their PSL 2026 campaign, securing a clinical six-wicket victory over arch-rivals Islamabad United at the National Stadium.
Entering the contest with their playoff hopes already extinguished, the Pindiz produced a masterclass in disciplined bowling and calculated chasing to silence the three-time champions.
The tone was set early when Rawalpindiz captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and elected to field, a decision that bore fruit immediately. United’s high-flying top order, which had dominated previous encounters, found no rhythm against a relentless Pindiz attack. Mohammad Amir (2/21) and Saad Masood (2/27) dismantled the core of Islamabad's batting, while Asif Afridi strangled the scoring in the middle overs.
Despite a fighting 40 from Devon Conway and a late flourish by Chris Green (29 off 16), Islamabad United were bundled out for a sub-par 137 in exactly 20 overs. It was a rare collapse for a side that had occupied the second spot on the table for much of the month.
Chasing 138, the Pindiz adopted a steady approach to avoid any early jitters. Mohammad Rizwan anchored the innings with a veteran's poise, compiling 45 off 38 balls. He found a perfect partner in Kamran Ghulam, whose aggressive 42 off 30 deliveries broke the back of the target.
Although Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim picked up a wicket each to provide a glimmer of hope for United, the Rawalpindi middle order remained composed. Daryl Mitchell added a brisk 32 off 25 to ensure the "Pindiz" crossed the line with 11 balls to spare.

For Islamabad United, the defeat is a significant wake-up call. While they remain strong contenders for the playoffs, this loss exposes vulnerabilities in their batting depth when faced with disciplined pace.
On the other hand, the Pindiz have finally found their winning combination. This victory isn't just about the points; it's about bragging rights in a rivalry that splits the north of the country.
