Perth Scorchers Seal Home Grand Final After Dominant Win Over Sydney Sixers

Perth Scorchers Seal Home Grand Final After Dominant Win Over Sydney Sixers

Perth Scorchers posted 147/9 in their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Finn Allen, whose fluent 49 came off 30 balls. The pitch offered the movement to the seamers, and the Scorchers had difficulties in gaining momentum, but late contributions lifted the total, which could be defended.

Sydney Sixers were chasing 148 and never found a stable rhythm. Steven Smith was their highest scorer of 37 off 24 balls, but wickets were gradually falling all around him. The Sixers were finally bowled out with 99 in only 15 overs and could not withstand the home side’s bowling attack.

Beardman Delivers Breakthrough Performance

The defining moment of the match came through young quick Mahli Beardman, who delivered a hostile spell to dismantle the Sixers’ chase. Beardman came into the early attack and removed the key batters like Josh Philippe and Moises Henriques before he got the most valuable wicket of Steven Smith.

Bowling continuously bowled at around 140kph, and Beardman finished with figures of 3/20, swinging the match firmly in the hands of Perth. Just before a potential international debut, his performance highlighted his rise to be one of the outstanding bowlers in the tournament.

Allen and Starc Early Battle Sets Tone

Earlier, there was considerable anticipation around the contest between Finn Allen and Mitchell Starc. Starc struck early, removing Mitchell Marsh, and applied pressure with pace and bounce. Allen had some difficulty in establishing his rhythm, but fell short of a second half-century despite some clean hitting.

Although Perth lost wickets regularly, a late partnership between Ashton Turner and Jhye Richardson brought them some stability and earned them 44 runs.

What Comes Next in the BBL 2026

This victory gives Perth Scorchers direct entry to the grand final, whereas the Sydney Sixers have one more opportunity to make it. The emphasis is now on the eliminator match on 21 January, where the winner of the Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Stars will advance and retain their chances of getting a title.
