LAHORE: PCB has reaffirmed that PSL 2026 will proceed as scheduled, dismissing concerns over player safety following recent regional tensions. The tournament is set to begin on March 26, with officials maintaining that all logistics and security arrangements are firmly in place.
Speculation had emerged around the availability of overseas players, particularly Australians, after travel advisories were issued in parts of the region. However, PCB officials have rejected suggestions of uncertainty. They stated that contracted players are expected to arrive in the country in the coming days.
“All travel arrangements and plans are in place, and we will have all the Australian players who have signed for the PSL 11 start arriving from next week,” a PCB source stated.
The PCB has also pushed back against reports suggesting reluctance among foreign players. Another official reiterated that there is no indication of withdrawals and that participation levels remain unaffected.
“The news reports in the media are not correct. There is no concern regarding Australian players coming to Pakistan,” another PCB source said.
High-profile Australian names, including Steve Smith, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, and Marnus Labuschagne, are part of the upcoming edition, alongside coaching staff such as Tim Paine and Jason Gillespie.
While maintaining confidence in existing arrangements, the board has also prepared backup measures. Contingency planning includes options for immediate evacuation if required.
The developments follow heightened tensions in the region after the Kabul airstrike. Despite this, the PCB has pointed to its experience in hosting international fixtures under challenging conditions.
The upcoming PSL 2026 season will feature eight teams and 44 matches, marking one of the league’s largest editions. New venues, including Faisalabad and Peshawar, are also set to be introduced as part of the expansion.
The league has also dealt with squad adjustments in recent weeks, including the withdrawal of some Afghanistan players.
