Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club wrapped up a convincing win against Leicestershire County Cricket Club, completing the chase of 73 with ease at Uptonsteel Grace Road.
The match was finished early on the final afternoon, highlighting Nottinghamshire’s control throughout the contest and reinforcing their strong start in the County Championship results.
Ben Slater led the chase with confidence, remaining unbeaten on 52, while captain Haseeb Hameed supported him with 22 not out, ensuring a smooth finish without losing a wicket.
The standout performance came from Liam Patterson-White, who delivered a remarkable spell to dismantle Leicestershire’s second innings. Bowling 36 overs unchanged, the left-arm spinner claimed 5-53, taking the final five wickets and putting Nottinghamshire firmly in control.
His consistency and ability to maintain pressure proved decisive, underlining his growing importance to the side and strengthening his reputation in the ongoing Nottinghamshire vs Leicestershire match.
Earlier in the match, Olly Stone had already set the tone with the ball. His pace troubled the opposition in the first innings, and he finished with match figures of 8-109, making a significant impact alongside Patterson-White.
Leicestershire showed resistance through Stephen Eskinazi’s 100 and Ajaz Patel’s 62 in the first innings, but their efforts were not enough to challenge Nottinghamshire’s dominance. Ben Green also impressed with the ball, claiming 7-112, yet the home side struggled to keep up overall.
Leicestershire resumed at 215-7 and managed to extend their innings, but wickets fell steadily. Patterson-White struck early in the day and continued to break partnerships. Ajaz Patel showed intent with a few boundaries but was eventually dismissed by a sharply turning delivery.
The innings ended at 254, leaving Nottinghamshire a small target that was comfortably achieved.
With this victory, Nottinghamshire strengthened their position early in the season and now look ahead to a tougher challenge against Surrey at Trent Bridge. Meanwhile, Leicestershire will aim to bounce back when they face Sussex in their next fixture.
