Washout Against West Indies Ends Pakistan Women’s Tri-Series Campaign
Pakistan Women’s team are out of the T20I tri-series in Ireland after persistent rain forced their match against West Indies on Wednesday to be abandoned.
Because of the no-result, Pakistan finished at the bottom of the table with just two points from three matches. Even if they beat Ireland in their final game on Thursday at the same venue, they can only reach a maximum of six points.
The washed-out match also helped Ireland, as they are still in the race to win the tri-series. If they beat Pakistan in their next game, they will move up to 12 points, which is two more than West Indies.
Pakistan’s batting line-up found it hard to handle the disciplined West Indies bowling attack and could only reach 111/7 in 16.5 overs before rain stopped play again, which eventually played a key role in the result.
Middle-order batter Aliya Riaz was the top scorer for Pakistan with a steady 24 off 23 balls, while captain Fatima Sana stayed unbeaten on 21 from the same number of deliveries.
Apart from them, only Rameen Shamim, Ayesha Zafar, and Gull Feroza managed to get into double figures, as the West Indian bowling attack kept things tight from the beginning.
For West Indies, Ashmini Munisar and Chinelle Henry were the most notable performers, as both players took two wickets apiece. Besides them, Zaida James, Afy Fletcher, and Qiana Joseph also joined in, picking up one wicket each.
The latest result is certainly a setback for the Pakistan Women’s team, as they were hoping to head into the ICC T20 World Cup with a win in the tri-series. Now, they will need to rethink some of their plans ahead of the tournament, as the competition in England is expected to be much tougher.
