Pakistan T20I World Cup 2026 participation remains under review, with the PCB preparing backup plans if the team pulls out of the tournament.
A final call is expected after PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi meets Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with senior-level consultations set to shape the board’s direction. Officials say the outcome of that meeting will determine both Pakistan’s World Cup status and the timeline for several pending announcements.
One immediate fallout of the uncertainty is the delay in the Pakistan’s T20 World Cup jersey launch. The board had lined up the jersey unveiling during the second T20I against Australia in Lahore, but that plan now sits on hold until a participation decision is locked in.
Behind the scenes, the PCB contingency plan is already underway. Sources indicate that if Pakistan opts out, the PCB is ready to roll out a short-format domestic competition featuring four sides drawn from the Pakistan senior squad, Pakistan Shaheens, and the U19 setup. The idea is to keep top players match-ready and maintain broadcast and fan engagement during the World Cup window.
The tension follows the ICC’s recent move to replace Bangladesh with Scotland after Bangladesh declined to travel to India. Pakistan are currently placed in Group A and scheduled to start their campaign against the Netherlands, with group matches assigned to Sri Lanka under the hybrid hosting model.
For now, PCB’s decision on T20 World Cup 2026 participation is expected shortly.
