After winning the toss, Pakistan opened on a blistering note. Despite losing Sahibzada Farhan early for five runs, Saim Ayub reacted with a quick 23 off 11 balls and struck four boundaries before Cooper Connolly trapped him lbw. These initial wickets did not trouble Pakistan much as Salman Agha started to dominate the innings.
Agha produced a sensational whack and scored 76 off 40 balls, with eight fours and four sixes. He balanced the innings throughout the middle overs and maintained excellent running between the wickets. His fifty off just 25 balls highlighted his overpowering style against both pace and spin.
Babar Azam had difficulty locating a rhythm and was dismissed lbw by Adam Zampa for two runs. However, Usman Khan settled the batting team with a patient 53 in 36 balls. His partnership with Agha restored momentum and put Pakistan over the 150-run mark.
Shadab Khan finished the innings with 28 off 20 balls, and Mohammad Nawaz followed with an unbeaten 9 off just three balls in the death overs. The run rate remained at 9.90; Pakistan finished strongly at 198/5.
Australia’s bowling lacked consistency, but Adam Zampa was exceptional with a record of 1/27. Cooper Connolly and Xavier Bartlett both claimed a wicket, but the visitors were not able to limit Pakistan on this pitch.
With Pakistan vs Australia shaping into a thrilling contest, the hosts will feel confident defending their total, especially with the support of a strong bowling attack waiting in the second innings.
