Jayawardene and Mendis Counter-Attack Drives SL Powerplay Blitz in 3rd T20I

RAWALPINDI: Driven by Sri Lanka's aggressive approach in powerplay overs, the visitors successfully neutralized the host's new-ball attack to finish the mandatory 6-over restriction period at a strong 59/1 during the ongoing PAK vs SL 3rd T20I. Pakistan’s powerplay score was 57/1.

Chasing a competitive target of 169 runs set by Pakistan, the Sri Lankan top order came out with clear attacking intent at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The run chase faced an early jolt in the very first over when Pakistan quick Mohammad Imran struck a massive breakthrough. Imran dismissed the dangerous opener Lahiru Udara, who managed only 1 run before being sent back to the pavilion. The early blow, however, did little to dampen the touring side's spirits.

The newly promoted Sineth Jayawardene joined captain Kusal Mendis at the crease, and the duo immediately shifted gears. Weaponizing Sri Lanka's aggressive approach in powerplay tactics, Jayawardene and Mendis took full advantage of the field restrictions.

Jayawardene repeatedly lofted the ball over the inner ring, racing away to counter-attack Pakistan’s seamers. Mendis matched his partner's scoring rate, hitting a flurry of boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking at more than nine runs per over.

By the time the 6th over concluded, both batsmen remained unbeaten on the crease, steering Sri Lanka to a commanding 59/1.
